Provo’s Music Scene

velour Muse MusicThere have been quite a few successful bands to come out of the Provo area that you’ve probably heard of, like Neon Trees, Joshua James, Imagine Dragon, Desert Noises, and The Moth & The Flame. But even though many of these bands have since left the Provo area there are still a lot of great local acts that you can catch for a very reasonable price at some of the different music venues such as the Velour Live Music Gallery and Muse Music.

This last weekend I had the opportunity to see a few bands play at City Limits Tavern. The night started with local act Marla Stone who played a mix original 70’s-esque hard rock songs and some covers including “I Wanna Be Your Dog” by The Stooges and “Back Door Man” by The Doors. Following Marla Stone was the touring one-man punk band Paisley Nightmare from bay-area California who played an entertaining set of all originals. Yak Yak Yak, a local noise punk-rock fronted by The Ladells guitarist Olin A., finished off the night with a blistering set of original material and a cover of “On Tour” by the 60’s garage band The Chancellors.

It was a great night, thanks to the appreciative music fans in Provo, full of singing and dancing. One of the great things that Provo has to offer is a vibrant local music scene. If you’re coming to Provo to study or just passing through for vacation be sure to check out a local show.
